So you want to get on HF but when? #ARRL #hamradio

It's time to work that special event station in Finland.  When is the band open to the State EOC for the disaster?

The answer to both and more is found at VOACAP.

There you will find a site that lets one select the place on the Planet you are and where you want to reach.

Select your antenna, mode, and power levels at both ends of the path.  How far will 100 watts and a wire go?

Using the current Sun Spot Numbers, the resource gives you path projects, long path and short path included.

It's a tool for contests, worked all states, and more.

Multimode Digital Voice resources #ARRL #hamradio

Increasingly popular, the Multimode Digital Voice resources such as Ohio, Oklahoma, and a number of Nets use are appealing.

Once upon a time, one had to invest in a HotSpot and Radio for each mode.

With the rising popularity of DroidStar, DudeStar, and these MMDV resources, the ham radio cost goes WAY down.

Nets such as the Alabama, SHARC, SCARS, Ohio, and Oklahoma groups have fostered a way forward for Sunflower.

Are you enjoying these nets now that the cost has gone down?

Comments below are welcome.

INFORMATIONAL WEBINAR SERIES

Fiscal Year 2022 Nonprofit Security Grant Program Technical Assistance Webinar Series

February 14, 2022

The Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Grant Programs Directorate (GPD), in partnership with the DHS Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), invites faith-based, community, and nonprofit organizations to participate in upcoming webinars regarding the fiscal year (FY) 2022 Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP).

The NSGP provides funding support through a competitive process for facility hardening and other security enhancements to nonprofit organizations at high risk of a terrorist attack and promotes emergency preparedness coordination and collaboration between public and private community representatives, as well as state, local, tribal, and territorial governments.

FEMA and its partners are committed to providing quality customer service to all our partners including socially vulnerable, underserved, and under-represented communities. As such, and building on last year's efforts, GPD is offering the following informational NSGP webinars for all nonprofit organizations interested in learning more about the program, priorities, eligibility, and application process.

Each webinar will present the same content, including:

  • Physical Safety/Security: Vulnerability Self-Assessment Information and Tools
  • NSGP Overview and FY 2021 NSGP Recap
  • Preparation for the FY 2022 NSGP: What Nonprofit Organizations Should Do Now
  • Open Forum: Moderated Question and Answer Session

ISS soon to be a memory #ARRL #hamradio

It was surely sad to read that ISS was going to end but …

Many have also enjoyed a QSO with the OKIE Owen Garriot, W5LFL, getting on MIR on packet, and contacts with the space shuttles on FM.

Looking forward to the TEVEL birds making FM satellites fun.

What's your space memory? Put comments in the area below.

Station activity #ARRL #hamradio

Some folks question don't seem to know what to do with amateur radio.  The answer is as simple as what do you WANT to do?

Contesting is popular ... or not.  Getting that elusive North Dakota contact for your Worked All States is a challenge.

Each month, QST lists Special Event Stations on the air.  More and more are including digital voice, ex. Dstar, Fusion, M17, etc.  and analog operations such as Allstar, Echolink, and IRLP.

The popular contest calendar  gets you current on contests, including special bands, ex. 10 meters and State QSO parties

What is your favorite ham radio event?  Drop your thoughts in comments.
