RepeaterBook seeking Admins #ARRL #hamradio

Question

What are the responsibilities of an admin (moderator)?
Answer

Admins are assigned a state or province and they are generally responsible for the database information pertaining to that area. They will conduct research to locate repeaters and update information, handle requests from site visitors, and review submissions.

Admins must be Ham radio operators with some knowledge of repeater operation (repeater owners preferred), some affinity to some basic web programming and attention to detail.

The time commitment is not very high. There is some front-end work getting the data entered and updated, but ongoing maintenance is low. The typical admin can spend just 15 minutes per week handling requests and doing some light research. Occasionally, more time is required for the bi-annual data reviews.

RepeaterBook is seeking Administrators.  See details at

https://www.repeaterbook.com/index.php?module=FAQ&func=display&faqid=27

Won't you consider joining the RepeaterBook Team as an admin.  The work is light and the benefits are keeping this resource as current as possible.

Potential Flooding #AltusOK #OKflood

As with any disaster, preparation can save lives and reduce losses. The Red Cross recommends that individuals and families prepare for floods by:
  • Creating and practicing a Disaster Plan: Talk to everyone in your household about what to do if a flood occurs. Decide where you would meet and who you would contact in case of flooding. Assemble and maintain an emergency preparedness kit. Be prepared to evacuate your family and petsat a moment’s notice. Listen to area radio and television stations for possible flood warnings and reports of flooding in progress.
  • Downloading the FREE Red Cross Flood App: The free mobile app, available for Android and iPhone platforms, will walk you through what to do before, during and after floods. You can set it to provide alerts when there is a NOAA Flood Watch or Warning in your area.
  • Assembling an Emergency Preparedness Kit: Have supplies in case you have to shelter-in-place or evacuate. Kits should contain a first aid kit and essential medications, foods that don’t require cooking or refrigeration and manual can opener, bottled water, flashlights and a battery-powered radio with extra batteries, copies of important documents and other emergency items for the whole family.
  • Heeding Flood Warnings: Listen to your local radio and TV stations for updated flood information. A flood WATCH means flooding or flash flooding is possible in your area. A food WARNING means flooding or flash flooding is already occurring or will occur soon in your area. When a flood or flash flood warning is issued for your area, head for higher ground and stay there.
  •  Relocating During Flood Warnings: Stay away from flood waters. If you come upon a flowing stream where water is above your ankle, stop, turn around and go another way. If you come upon a flooded road while driving, turn around and go another way. If you are caught on a flooded road and waters are rising rapidly around you, get out of the car quickly and move to higher ground.

We urge you to share these Red Cross flood preparedness tips with every member of your household, because the best protection is to be prepared ahead of time.

Wildfire Evacuation #OKfire #OKready #tweko

Wildfires have recently struck parts of the U.S. forcing many residents to leave their homes. These fires can occur at any time throughout the year, but the potential is always higher during periods of little to no rainfall, which make grass and trees burn more easily.
When a wildfire threatens your area, the best action to protect yourself and your family is to evacuate early to avoid being trapped. The America’s PrepareAthon! How to Prepare for a Wildfire guide offers valuable information to protect your family during a wildfire.  On page five of the guide, you’ll find tips to help you prepare for an evacuation, including:
  • Know your community’s evacuation plan and identify several escape routes in case roads are blocked;
  • Keep your car fueled and in good condition. Keep emergency supplies and a change of clothes in your car; and
  • Make arrangements now if you will need to share transportation or use public transportation.
If you drive during an evacuation and there is smoke, drive carefully because visibility may be reduced. Also, keep your headlights on and watch for other vehicles and fleeing wildlife.
Take disaster preparedness to the next level. Download the new Wildfire Safety Toolkit from the Ready campaign and America’s PrepareAthon! to share wildfire safety tips with family and friends today!
